As the sun dipped behind the horizon, spraying the sky with a vast coloration of fire-like red, oranges and gold. it was quite. The smell of blood was heavy and thickened the air, stinging the eyes of any creature that may venture the close area. The were tufts of black, gray and brown furs all scattered about as the blades were shrewd and cut from places. Earth had been churned and kicked about. These remnants were clear of a deadly fight, blood tainting the blades of grass nearby, and that of an outnumbered battle.. 1 to 5.
That very battled had lasted well into the afternoon now as the culprits were gone now, the evidence of their destruction was hidden amongst the shade of an ancient and thick oak tree and the thicker long grasses. It's streamline body melted into the shadow perfectly, it's black coat coloration was perfectly suited for this maneuver. The only breaks in the fae's coat were the gashes of red, that trained over her black silhouette like splashes of red paint. It broke her camouflage but now a new facade was arriving, that of night concealed in the coldness that ran along this setting around her. Her shoulders and muzzles were in a severely emaciated state.
A thick lump of obsidian fur had been un-earthed from the grass bed as the light thudding of what was most likely a female wolfess came to the knowings of black, sharply cut audits. With a sharp groan emanating from the torn blood stained lips, the being heaved it's self up onto it's swollen fore hocks. The sprained and muscles tugged her sore skin as she but her lower lip, keeping the pain in and slowly limped forward, her golden orbs falling onto the vision of a light cream colored doe suddenly leaping away. She tried to wag her mass if black tail but couldn't; every skin on her body was sore and it would only scream more if she dared to move. She was alone out here and weak and beaten and in hopes of being found.

[bg=000000][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,5,false][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] The day was agonizing. It was a never ending process of fighting, killing and having the mental stability of it all for two. A year ago, this would not have even been a consideration. A year ago - not even himself mattered.
The dew on the grass was thickening as the night grew colder. Everything appeared to be deathly silent all around him but this was nothing out of the usual anymore. With the dark clouds rolling in, the lilthe dark wolf knew he must make it to safer grounds before his own vision failed him. Although he could still see at night, the sights were severely diminished. The thick pale blue cataracts that covered his orbs were to thank for such a miserable night life.
This forest, a place of hell, he had once called home. He still remembered every twist and turn. Knew almost every tree along this route from years of wandering this very forest. Even if his vision did fail, he would have no problem with navigation. Assuming that he wasn't interrupted.
His pace was slow, long legs reaching out to feel the earth before the next did the same. Erebos continued on this trail for what seemed like an eternity until something made him freeze in his steps. One large paw dangled mere inches from the ground it had been expecting to fall on. Although his head did not move from it lowered position, the large auds that stood on top of it were at attention, pushing forward to catch the rustle of the foliage ahead.
Most would have known the sound and the scent - Food. A very much alive deer was nearby. Although he knew he could never tackle such an animal on his own. This was not what really caught his attention in the end. It was the black wet nose on the end of his muzzle that pinpointed the object of interest. Blood.
It was pungent in the air, surely the beast was long departed from the world. The paw finally hit the ground, his muscles urging him backwards, to flee from the scent. In all honesty, there was no telling what the creature died from and there was only one reason Erebos could think of.
His own jaw almost dropped at his next actions. It was a stupid idea, a stupid decision - Yet one he could not stop himself from. His body moved just as slowly as before only in the wrong direction that his mind screamed at him to go - he was walking straight towards the dark lump of fur that lay on the maroon stained leaves.
Blank orbs never left her body as he circled her once - twice. He studied every inch of her frame, taking in the conditions of her. She was worse off than he was, that was for sure. A crooked grin spread across his maw as he considered the vicious attack that took place here. Oh, how he missed it. The realization of why he came here was starting to creep into his mind. The memories of it all, the ecstatic feelings that came with it - the utter desire deep within his heart to do it over and over again. He was enjoying the sight of pain and suffering once again. Diving head first into it, lapping it up with his seemingly dead eyes. What thrilled him more than anything, however... was the fact that she wasn't dead.
He watched the slow movements of her chest as she breathed in the precious air, his eyes piercing through her as the drool began to form within his maw. Swallowing it back, he finally found a suitable resting place behind the badly beaten fae, making sure to not get too close to her. And he waited.
It wasn't long before she began to stirr - His cataract covered orbs never left her. Not out of worry or longing - he was only imagining her fighting for her life as she had obviously done not too long ago. A sneer spread across his maw as she rose herself weakly. Before she could turn to see him, he spoke out. His voice was low and teasing - the same voice filled with so much desire that many had heard before. "My, my - What have we here? Have you found the strength to live?"
His eyes focused on nothing. The crooked sneer remained. He did not even bother to lift himself from the ground as he watched her reactions.

If being stubborn didn't kill her, I don't know what would. Slightly cut harks lightly threaded forward and then backwards on her skull as she tried to examine her surroundings now, her muscles convulsing every now and then slowly as bits of blood feel to the ground below her. Crow herself wasn't a large wolfess, more or less she was slightly below average for others, even females but she didn't care. She could sneak into places others couldn't, was quicker and she believed herself to be smarter, but that's simply opinion. But containing this condition she was useless and worthless, perhaps the scraps that could feed foxes and vultures at best.
Groaning some she frittered her fangs together and let her frame slide down, feeling the cold ground below her trace over her belly, trying to tickle a numb skin. She ached, but her eyes were closed, you wouldn't be able to read it. Slowly laying on her side, she panted softly, ears ever alert with firmly shut eyes. "Why can't I just die?" Crow whispered to herself, whiskers twitching as her lips moved to curl up the letters needed for her small, almost mute phrase.
Now, there was a shift in the wind, churning as it rustled dead leaves about and overhead as Crow huffed, trying to roll onto her tummy and covering her already damaged underside. And there was the smell first before she could hear his faint paw steps tapping along the ground. Flaring her nostrils she looked in the direction from where the source of the thick scent was. She saw the pointed ears of the wolf slowly nearing her that almost whispered something but it was simply a sneer on his face, circling her like ravens did to a prey. Crow was baffled, fearing for her safety and seemed to wiggle away, or try to, looking like some sort of cut worm trying to escape.
Now these attempts were futile as her body made her stop and catch her breath. Gulping some she pinned her ears back against her head as she looked back to him now, egg-yolk golden eyes seemed lowered and blank of utter emotion as she kept a submissive demeanor. Really, who could possibly try to play dominant when your completely wrecked on the ground? Obviously not Crow. She eyeballed him as if he were some sort of virus, the furthermost part of her muzzle tucked up, hiding a defensive growl.
He said something else and chuckled, something that only made Crow tilt her head slowly, wanting to yell things at him but was unable to. "What's he think is so funny?" She asked herself before huffing some, her chest puffing out against the ground before she slowly started to turn so that she could face him properly. "My, my - What have we here? Have you found the strength to live?" He spoke with an icy voice, something that made Crow's heart nearly leap, her ears plastered firmly against her head as she tried to sway her head but couldn't and just layed there before him, trying to keep him infront.

They had split up to search for food, as they did often. There was a higher success rate if they split up because they could cover more ground. But Astrid was feeling lonely for some reason. She didn't want her mate to leave her alone anymore. She'd managed to catch a rabbit and a squirrel. It would be a measly dinner, but they were the only animals she could find that weren't infected. Even though times were getting a bit easier, the infection rate was high. She didn't know how much longer she and Erebos would make it. Though she never shared these dark thoughts with him, because she knew they might anger him. Astrid did not fear Erebos as most wolves did. Astrid saw things in Erebos that no one else probably ever had. She loved him, and she liked to think he loved her too. After all, he never acted like he didn't.
It happened quickly. The scent of blood filled her nostrils, causing her to stop cold. She sniffed a little more, trying to discern where the scent was coming from so she could steer clear of it. But when she smelled Erebos's scent mingling with the scent of the blood her heart stopped. She took off like a bullet in his direction, her prey still hanging languidly from her jowls. The scene she came upon didn't make her happy. A bloody wolfess lay on the ground, and Erebos stood above her. Instantly two unpleasant feelings erupted inside her. One was fear for her mate, anger, how could he be so stupid? The other was something she'd never felt, she couldn't quite place it, but she knew she didn't like him being around the black female. She dropped her prey in a pile and walked up to Erebos, her ears pinned back.
"What are you doing?" She snapped harshly. "You're always telling me to be careful, and then I find you so close to this?"

She nosed toward the black female, her blue eyes icy. Her words were uncharacteristically cruel, and she felt a little guilty about not caring about the female. But the only reason the two of them were still alive was because they had been cautious, and he was willing to abandon that for what? What did she mean to him? Suspicious spilled in on top of her anger and jealousy and she was left seething, her unwavering icy gaze never leaving her mate.[/blockquote]

[bg=000000][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,5,false][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] The air surrounding the pair seemed to shift, become warmer. Or perhaps it was only Erebos himself who felt the warmth of fond memories fill his body. Everything around them was still deathly quiet, as if all the birds and insects were holding their breath at the scene that played out before them. He remembered these looks. Remembered the body language now. Over the past year all of these things must have slipped his mind. Being far too focused on what needed to be done instead of relaxing and enjoying the simple pleasures in life.
His breath remained calm. Shallow, slow breaths made him look like a statue, unless one was focusing intently on him, nothing seemed to move at all on the dark wolf. Eyes did not look directly at her yet even if they had, they would have appeared to her just as lifeless as they would to any creature. The lithe wolf mused to himself for a moment if it made her feel more comfortable around him. If she assumed like all the others that he was disabled. His once brilliantly coloured orbs could not pierce through another any longer - It made him seem less of a threat, less fearsome.
Simply less.
The smile began to slowly fade from his maw, replaced with something much colder. This is how it always happened before. The thoughts swinging wildly out of control from something that made the wolf quite blissful to an enraged state of mind. Surely - She thought less of him. Just like everyone had. The muscle within his chest began to pick up pace, his adrenalin increasing. Outwardly, it would be obvious the wolf was becoming extremely agitated. If he would just walk away now, turn and leave - Forget about it, everything would be fine.
However, the brute could not allow this to happen. He would not simply allow a female to think less of him for his disabilities - He would teach her.
Erebos rose slowly, the frown still pulling at his lips. His gaze scanned her body, though it was almost impossible to see the pupils move behind the thick cataracts. When he reached her, he lowered his head to her folded ear, his stale breath moving the fur on her head before he whispered to her, his voice low and on the verge of cracking. "You're right - Conversation is overrated. Perhaps we'll just sk--"
Before the most important words to him could be uttered, something else caught his attention. Ears swiveled backwards and a single step was taken away from the beaten fae before the familiar voice hit him.
A charming smirk rose on the left side of his maw as he allowed her to push him back. Although his heart fluttered, it did not show in his expressions. Casually, he lowered to his haunches and spoke to Astrid with a low groan, a bit of humour could be heard under his tongue. "Well, we have to eat sometime, don't we?"
With that, Erebos rose his body and moved away from the two females, giving them both space. He rested himself only a couple of yards away, his blank stare shifting between them, all smiles..
Inside, the lithe wolf was seething for two reasons. First, he had been so close to experiencing something the forbidden doors of his mind had missed so dearly. Secondly, he had been so close to losing focus of the things that really mattered: Astrid. This obsessive drug was something Erebos never told Astrid about - She would never understand the power it held over him. She would never understand the sick actions he had taken for so long - Even against her. He didn't understand it himself, in all honesty.
Ears folded back on the top of his skull yet the smile remained as he crossed his paws over one another, trying to enjoy the view.
