The early morning sun penetrated the holes in the rotting wood of the ship's roof with sickening ease. A sole body lay in the middle of the room, curled up in a tight ball in the corner. Slowly and with an irritated grunt the mass of the body shifted a little bit. The tail that had been covering the black and white canine's nose moved as he stretched his body out on the floor. An air of irritation still about him, the brute picked himself up from the floor. The 'click click' of his claws on the wooden floor could be heard in the room as he made his way over to a puddle of rainwater.
Minnesota carefully inspected the water, sniffing at it to make sure it was okay to drink. Finally, after a few minutes of close scrutiny he deemed the water okay to drink. A few laps satisfied his thirst and he stretched out again. His brown eyes took in the room that he had deemed his. The only canine he would happily share it was Paradox. Thankfully, his mate had managed to survive the outbreak. Since the outbreak, everyone had changed, but perhaps no one as much as Minnesota. The once happy, trusting, and outgoing dog was no secluded and quiet. He didn't trust anyone, not even the dogs of the pack. He'd seen it happen so many times. He'd seen so many dogs that he was close to fall in and succumb to their own madness that he only dog he would let close to him anymore was Paradox, and that was because he'd fallen in love the strange female a long long time ago.
With a bit of a sigh, he turned to pad out of the room. He would find something to eat and locate his mate.

Paradox was sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine. A small smile was allowed on her face as she looked about, wondering she should head back to her mate. Her mate, she still couldn't believe how lucky she was about finding Minnesota. He seemed to be the only one who she was calm around and revert back to her once normal self. Maybe this is what love does to you? she mused to herself. Love, it took her a while to identify the feeling but she eventually did. The butterflies in her stomach and the occasional smile was proof of that.
The Akita Inu gently stretched before heading out to find food. It was hard as it is to come about it. Since the outbreak started, she became highly conscious of what she ate and who she was near. Paradox couldn't imagine getting the plague, and even more spreading it to Minnesota. Shaking her head, she nodded the thought off.
Padding into the forest, the soft grass tickling her paws, she began thinking about the outbreak. It never really affected her, except for the contamination part. Paradox was never truly close to anyone in the pack, well besides her mate. So when each death was told to her, she simply paid her respects.
A sudden noise snapped her out of her thoughts. Her ears perked as she heard something was there, taking off she began her hunt.
------
She retuned happy with a rabbit snared in her teeth. She found a bunch of them, seemingly healthy also. Padding towards the ship she decided not to enter yet and instead walked towards a shaded side near the edge behind the ship. Minnesota's scent was cold, and Paradox put two and two together and knew he was hunting. I'll find him later, he knows how to take care of himself, she thought. The red canine saw the changes in her mate. He no longer had the happy laid-back out there personality, he became secluded and reserved. They lived in the ship for god-sakes, away from everyone else (not that she minded of course). She worried for him and wanted him to know she'll aways be there. All these thoughts raced through her head as she ate peacefully hidden.
