The wind was chilling despite the fact that the surrounding air was quite warm. It sprayed gusts of salty water up into the air and into the faces of any passerby. Had this been only a year prior, there would have been the laughter and screams of children as they ran from the waves that seemed to chase their tiny feet. School would have been out for the next two and a half months. Bacchus would have probably been enjoying himself more - Running up to the smaller ones trying to grasp their scoops of ice cream and quickly lapping at it while the children giggled and their parents screamed at the stray. Now, however, the air was deadly silent. Not a breath of a human existed any longer. No free treats. No pats on the back.
With a heavy sigh, the German Shepherd mix shook the memories from his head and proceeded to move on his way back to the city. Although he had been a stray for quite some time before the plague hit, he still loved humans more than he could ever express. In their absence, a hole had been left in his heart that could never be filled again. This was a important fact that he kept from the Si Insinua gang. Although there was little to no reason to do so, he knew it would make him seem weak. He had come so far within their ranks and losing any respect within the well oiled machine was something he couldn't risk.
He had been out this far for two reasons. One, in hopes to run into survivors that were in need of help. This was his job regardless of what had happened. It was treacherous now - a gamble with life or death each time he ran into another creature. There were few signs of the infection but it seemed so easy to catch. The other reason he came here was for the memories. Perhaps the main reason, to be honest.
This trek hadn't been a complete failure. He hadn't died; hadn't run into the disease. Although he would return empty handed. This was something he knew he would have to make up for. Food was so scarce anymore that the option of bringing something back was hopeless.
That is until a sight a few hundred yards away caught his eye. Something completely out of the ordinary on the white sandy beach. A large black lump lay rotting in the sunlight. Seagulls hovered above, others gorged themselves on the beached whale carcass.
A grin spread across the mutts face as his pace increased to a full gallop towards the most amount of food he had seen in over a year. First, he would fill himself. Then, Bacchus would bring what he could back as proof of the feast that awaited his gang. A joy unlike any other filled any gap of worry as he reached the bloated whale.

[scrolly:h(290),w(250),sy]Change was change, and there was really nothing to bother about it. Well, that was, besides for being grateful that one had experienced such a revolutionary period. For Eli, it was just that: sure death was never pleasant, but slinking through the tides of change would always be better than being stuck in a dull stasis. Not to mention the disappearance of the humans was most certainly lovely in the wild animal's mind.
Of what was left of the island's population, the stoat still retained her knowledge and surveillance of the general goings on. She knew how the Si Insinua had took up the city, how the Vapaus had remained twisted, and how the Fuljenge brought themselves out of Zaveda's ruin. Yet she held no allegiance but the one to herself and her life, information was the most important thing a pack could have now. The only other bits of value being food and disease-free able bodies. Of the three, intelligence remained her claim to fame.
Pausing in her scheduled flight over the generally empty edges of the island, the ermine stood upon her hind legs and listened to the screech of gulls. The sea breeze brought to her a canine scent, and one of an animal she didn't know. The unfamiliar creature reeked of death, and a sort of fatty smell that reminded her of humans. Deciding to investigate Eli scurried over unto the sands and was faced with the massive creature of water.
Although unfamiliar and rank with death, it smelled free from disease. Eli noted the Shepard mix drooling over such a meal; Insinua, she figured, the weasel had seen him among their cluster. Uncomfortable with the open space and her vulnerability, Elisavetta zig zagged across the sand between herself and the dog until he was close enough for her to have to look up to see above his ankles. With wary eyes more on the sky than the threat before her, she spoke, "Starving, and then you conveniently find this huge meal. How interesting the fates seem to be."
Striking up a mutually beneficial relationship with the dog was her best bet in having a safe opportunity to witness the curious whale on the sands. She could offer him some discoveries that his superiors woulf most certainly be interested in.[/scrolly] |

The stench as he drew closer slapped him in the face, sending a scowl to form along it. His pace slowed as he wondered just how long the corpse had been laying out here in the sun. Eyes flicked upward to the birds circling the mass of flesh as Bacchus considered his options. In the end, meat was meat - however putrid. There had to be decent flesh hidden within. A movement to his right caught his eye, his head shifting towards the small creature scurrying towards him. A brow cocked slightly at the brave little thing.
When she reached him and began to casually speak, it took a moment for the Shepherd mix to reply. He simply looked at her like she must be crazy. But in all honesty, it wasn't odd to run into such characters anymore. The scowl lifted up forming a half grin, his eyes lit up at the humour of it all. "You have quite the couragous heart, you know. If circumstances were different, you might just have well been lunch for a starving mouth."
He allowed a long pink tongue to loll out of his maw, shifted his weight and allowed his rump to fall to the ground with ease. No matter how loud his stomach screamed at him, it would need to be patient. Food was no match for a lonesome soul. Gulls screamed out at one another, fighting for the scraps of flesh. There was so much of it that Bacchus had to wonder why exactly they were fighting over the same pieces. "Yeah, it is.", he finally replied to her as his head shifted towards the ocean beast. "Should provide a bit of joy for the others. We all need it anymore." Once again, his brown optics moved back down to the small creature, the smile widening across his maw. "Name's Bacchus. What can I do you for, ma'am? You name it."
Being quite the helpful creature he was, he meant what he said. A few moments of casual, light-hearted conversation was well worth any assistance she might need. There was always the thought of recruitment in his mind, of course - This was his job after all. However, he knew this would be an impossibility. Regarding most of the characters in Flint, they would more than likely swallow her whole or turn her in for a bit of repayment for their vices.

[scrolly:h(290),w(250),sy]It was only after he began speaking directly to her that her little black eyes snagged on the dog and her attention seemed fully with him. This Bacchus was one of the more pleasant ones, happier to have a new soul to speak with than he was even to have found such a meal.
A little smirk across her little maw decorated her reply, "If circumstances were different I'd have continued on my way. You would have never known I was here." The glint of a challenge filled her obsidian orbs, survival was the ultimate game and she fancied herself an expert player.
Twitching her whiskers with the ocean breeze, her nose full of sand and salt, she allowed her cautious eyes to flicker towards the sky again before chirping, "Pleased to meet you, you can call me Eli. I'd like to exchange information with you, so long as you'd be so kind as to make sure none of those nasty birdies take a liking to me." Of course, it was more any passing hawk that worried her, the seagulls were too busy with the whale. Not to mention weasel wasn't much to the seabird's tastes.
She took the time then to really study the beached sea creature. It's sheer size was enough to blow her inquisitive mind, and she wondered if it was relatively small compared to the other mysteries of the watery depths. It was terrifying to imagine what sorts of gargantuan monsters were out there. The stoat wondered if the virus had affected them too, or if there even were diseases under the waves. She shook her head, some things were simply beyond her ever discovering, and she knew she'd be better off using her allotted time to learn what she realistically could.[/scrolly] |

The wind seemed to pick up around the pair, around the commotion. It sent gulls soaring unwillingly further into the island before they finally redirected themselves to the enormous pile of flesh. If he didn't think about it - If he didn't take the city into consideration, this was the most life he had seen in a long time. Things sounded blissfully normal. The loud calls of the hundreds of gulls and small birds filled a silent void that had been left on the island. It was nearly relaxing to the Shepherd mix.
He allowed her words to flow into him, listening intently as if what she had to say was possibly the most important thing he would hear the rest of the day. This unimaginable skill of listening and offering was probably the reason he made such a wonderful recruitment member within the gang of Si Insinua. If others felt wanted and generally important, they were more likely to follow - assuming that more of the same characteristics would be found within the town of Flint. This is where the enjoyment of his job ended, however. He knew what kind of lifestyle he was leading them to and it depressed him to no end.
When her small eyes flicked towards the sky, Bacchus' own followed for a moment. Seeing nothing of interest, he returned his gaze back down towards the small creature. He understood what she meant, yet this did not show on his features. The one thing that did strike interest, however, was one particular word that she uttered to him. "Information."
Ears pushed forward slightly as he considered what such a small being could really posses that would make any venture for her worthwhile to any other canine. His grin downsized to a cheerful smirk as he replied to her. "I think I can handle that. Shall we?"
He would not be so rude as to deny her his aid, he did not expect her to tell him anything before he helped her. It was unlikely that she really did need his help in the end but as Bacchus knew, the feeling of at least assuming you were helping someone could be overpowering.
He rose himself then walked slowly around the huge creature, expecting to find an open wound on the side that the birds were tearing apart. He kept his gait slow all the way around, unsure of how fast the stoat could move. "Although I shouldn't stay long, you know. There are more bellies that need filling other than my own. I don't suppose you can hold too much anyway." A teasing smirk rose on his face as he looked down at her.
Whatever this little being had to offer, though, could be far more important than any amount of food.

[scrolly:h(290),w(250),sy]She quickly followed him towards the door of the carcass, her little legs moving quickly to make up for their shortness. Once she had a nice niche where she could fill her stomach with the blubbery flesh, the weasel turned back to her companion. "Once I'm done I will share my information with you, it pertains to those curious Fuljenge. In the meantime would you mind telling me of the latest goings-on in Si Insinua and what you're doing all the way out here?" her beady eyes blinked up at him, her overpowering curiosity more than she could contain within the recesses of herself.
Without waiting for an answer, she sniffed the meat before snatching into it with her fangs. The consistency was unnerving, terribly different from the rabbits she generally sustained herself with. It reeked of death and rot brought on by the sun, but it was still edible meat. And really that was all that mattered. She had no intentions of withholding the information she had promised the dog, the deal had been her knowledge for protection and that was all she really needed. If he didn't feel like sharing his own knowledge it would be no loss: she could find things out for herself easily enough. Especially while the town dogs were busy filling their starved stomachs to notice a brown furred morsel scurrying about.
The gulls flew overhead, some bold enough to come close earned themselves a fearsome snarl from the mammal whose body was about the same size as their own. There was a whole world of animal life beyond the canines of the island, the prey animals both small and large living in their own groups and attempting to understand the insanity of life. Where a simple stoat was no match for anything but the smallest of dogs, she was a fierce threat in the face of squirrels, birds, and any other bugger of her own size. She was never afraid, but her instincts and intelligence allowed her to steer clear of dangerous fights. Eli would never intentionally get into something she couldn't easily handle. And it was with that wild blood boiling with the passion of blood that she scarfed down the vile meat. [/scrolly] |

The screeches all around them were unsettling the normally calm Shepherd mix as he tried his best to listen to the words that came from the small Stoat. Perhaps it was the mix of the whole situation. However much he knew this beast of the sea was needed by his own body, the stench of it threw him of slightly. It's not like he hadn't consumed worse to be honest. However, he had make a promise to the Stoat. He would not bother with feeding himself yet, knowing full well that any attention lost to the goings on around him could quickly mean her death.
Fuljenge? HIs ears perked slightly, head tilted to the side to express his confusion. He didn't know much about what was happening outside of the Si Insinua lands but it seemed logical that everyone would know of a pack that existed. Eli quickly changed the subject, however. It took all his strength to pull away from the curiosities and answer her questions about himself.
"Myself? The exact same thing I'm nearly forced to do day after day. Nothing much has changed in the ways of Si Insinua. They still need members regardless of the risks they put commoners like myself in. It's really their... our only key to survival. Although there is hardly anyone left to run into any longer. Less that I would actually want to run into, if you catch my drift." A charming smile brightened up his face as he lightly joked about the virus that was widespread throughout the island now. He had his run ins, of course. Had seen those infected and now understood somewhat who to avoid. Nothing was one hundred percent though.
Bacchus was a very trusting individual. Most of the other members would first ask the small creature why exactly she wanted to know about the gang of dogs that inhabited the islands abandoned town. Suspicions would crawl over their faces, some would possibly even bring the creature in for questioning - Hoping to relieve some of their own debts with this small prize. However, Bacchus had no such thoughts, he did not question her intentions. The reason for this was simply because what Bacchus knew, anyone could easily find out. He was not a part of the higher ring of things. He did not know the plans - Hell, he didn't even know where the storage of food and uncontaminated water was or how much of it was left.
"The only thing interesting or out of the normal thing that has happened recently is the word of some higher power. Stories vary, I wasn't around to witness it. A small canine whom no one has seen before trotted right down Main Street and spewed out, what seems to me, a bunch of nonsense. Even had the guts to confront Naxx and call him a demon." Bacchus shook his head slowly in amusement, a small chuckle escaping his lungs. He hoped Eli didn't request further information because he... simply didn't have it. What he did tell her meant little to the canine but could possibly mean more to the small Stoat, although he didn't consider this.
The curiosity was still playing about in his head, however. He glanced over at her once again and just said one word, imagining that she would get the point. "Fuljenge?"
