[bg=000000][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,5,false][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] The silence was not comforting. Insects and birds sang to one another within the brush and treetops. These creatures were abundant, they had managed to escape or be immune to the devastation that had met the island not a year prior. The sounds of small mammals scuffling around in the brush and larger preys grunts were still silent on the island, few had survived. It was still eerie to the lithe dark wolf. It was odd how he had never noticed these things before, never paid any heed. It was odd how, now that they were all but gone, the island seemed more desolate and depressing than ever. This place he had called home all his life no longer felt comfortable. There was danger in every direction now. Any approaching old comrade could, more likely than not, easily be a foe. An enemy so horrific and powerful that it would be simply stupid not to turn and run despite how fearsome you believed yourself to be. Their power was not physical or mental, no. Their power came from their very existence. Everyone knew of it. No one knew a thing about it.
Erebos wasn't a sublime wolf previously by any means. But he accepted company and feared nothing for only one reason: he did not fear death. This wolf, however, had changed drastically over the past year. He now had someone to look after. If he didn't fear his own death, he feared hers. Being the typical male, he assumed that the younger wolfess would not survive if he allowed any ill will to come upon himself. This thought scared him more than anything.
She was indeed a much more free spirit than himself. It wasn't odd for him to rise and find her gone. Each time, his heart raced as he frantically searched for the younger wolfess. Old habits die hard, though. Each time he found her it took all of his strength not to leave her and take his frustrations out on a lesser canine. The fear of the infection had held him back for nearly a year. He always wondered how much longer he would last. The fae he now called his own did help not only in the most primal of ways, but her presence eased his mind. Most of the time, he thought that the way he felt was how most wolves have felt their entire life. He felt happy.
The darkening sky was ominous, dark clouds began rolling in making the last bit of light start to slip away well before it's time. He knew his eyesight would fail him in the dark, knew he should be heading back. Something stopped him, however. Cataract covered orbs scanned the bank of the river as far as his vision would allow him to see. Everything was much more quiet than normal and the only movements the wolf could detect was the light swaying of the tall grasses and the wind whispered sweet nothings over the land.
Lids closed slightly over his orbs in a manner than suggested annoyance. His breath was baited as he pushed his ears forward, forcing them to detect the slightest sound, the softest movements of soil. There was something out there, there was no doubting that. His body screamed at him to flee but his stomach forced him to stay. There was always the chance...
One upper lip quivered slightly, off-white daggers making their presence known only for a few short split seconds before the low growl could no longer be contained. Once released, he embraced it and allowed it to rumble through the depths of his chest. A warning, a dare. To who or what ever lay just beyond his weak line of vision.

The female followed her mate silently, blue eyes trained on her feet rather than him. She could hear him well enough to follow him, so she didn't have to look at his butt the whole trip. Astrid tried not to think about everything that had happened the past year. The outbreak, all of the animals dying.. Everyone in the pack.. Dead. Including Apollo and her puppies. She and Erebos were all each other had left. Not that it was a bad thing, because she didn't know what she would have done had he died. Perhaps it was wrong of her, to love him more than her children and family, but this year together had only strengthened their relationship. They were inseparable now, except of course when she decided to take a morning adventure. The female had been young when the male she now called her beloved had forced himself on her. The mating had produced three healthy pups, none of which still walked the earth.
Astrid was still young. She was only four, however the things she'd been forced to go through aged her beyond her years. Mainly mentally, but she'd matured physically as well. The puppy like figure she'd worn before the pregnancy was long gone. No longer was she thin and lanky, now she was filled out, her legs proportionate to her body. Her facial features were sharper, and her eyes had darkened a bit, but she still withheld the beauty that she always had. There was no mistaking that she was Astrid.
Her ears pricked when her mate stopped, his daggers glaring in the sun. She walked up next to him. Despite the changes in her body, she hadn't really grown bigger. The coal colored wolf still dwarfed her when they were standing side by side. Her blue eyes were squinted to get a better look at the wolf. White. Her heart jumped. She sniffed. A male.. She inhaled deeper...
"Apollo!" She cried, and without a second thought she launched herself toward him. . .

Apollo was completely and utterly lost. He survived the outbreak but lost his sister when the chaos started. He had a feeling that she was alive, he just knew it. Of course she should have Erebos with her, though he didn't approve of that...thing he knew it would protect her. As he wandered, his mind drew back to his sister. He felt his heart wrench at the thought of her blue eyes and laughter. Apollo missed her, how he would pay just to see her once more. His paws decides to bring him to a familiar part of the forest, the river. His mind grew with paranoia, wondering if the water was actually safe or not. He hated how he had to constantly had to question everything to keep himself alive. He didn't seem to ever relax since he was separated from Astrid, he had to stay alive and healthy to meet her. God forbid if he got the plague, he would rather get killed instead of risking her life. Apollo's body became tense as he a scent reached his nose. Male and...female he thought registering the scents. Veering of from the shadows he decided to clearly show himself to get a better look. He stepped closer to see a blurry image of a familiar white wolf that haunt his mind whenever her named snuck into his mind, behind her was a grey wolf. Maybe I'm imagining things? he wondered sadly stepping closer to confirm his thoughts.Soon after he heard a growl but he continued to press on. Apollo a female voice rang. The voice was familiar. Apollo immediately replied, "Astrid?" He hoped it was truly her otherwise he was either going insane, getting the plague, or both.

Once again she had proven how different they really were. It was a miracle of nature and the heart that they were so fond of one another in the end. Regardless, it was something the lithe dark wolf would never change. If he hadn't known the light coloured fae so well when he caught the particular scent - if he hadn't predicted what would happen nearly in the same instance that it did, he would have been left in a trail of dusk watching her rump run from him and straight into danger. However, Erebos had known what would happen and acted accordingly. A menacing bark was released as he threw himself in front of her. "Astrid, NO!". In reality, the bark was more of a warning to that long lost wolf who had tried his damnest previously to keep them apart.
Funny how life worked really. In the end, no matter how hard Apollo had tried - He had been the one who had been separated from his darling sister while Erebos took over his role as her protector. A role that he would continue fighting for until his dying breath. Although he knew deep in his mind somewhere that Apollo would be much better at the job - he was much larger and stronger than Erebos -, when you love someone as much as Erebos loved Astrid, there was no room for anyone else. There was no trusting her life in anyone elses hands. Because in the end, no one else could be trusted to risk their lives as passionately as he would for her.
No time had passed from when he first shouted and jumped in front of her before he spoke again. His voice lowered, it was much calmer now. He knew the idea of it all would break her heart. With that thought in his mind, he allowed only a suggestion to escape, allowing her mind to work out the details of his words. "You don't know if..."
As cold hearted as Erebos once was and still was today, her eyes melted any formation of ice on the beating muscle before he could bat an eye. His first instinct was to flee away with her and to never mention the possibility of what could have been again. It was the logical instinct in the depressing world they now inhabited. But... those eyes...
"...Please, darling, there is always the risk - You know this. I can't risk you. Let me..." Before she could respond to him, he turned away from her. His head was high and his tail even with his body. He moved himself until there was a clear view of the white wolf he had fought with mind and body what seemed so long ago.
"Apollo." A nod was given in his direction though his body still screamed at the larger wolf to stay where he was. "I understand what this may mean to you, but you wouldn't want to risk her life, would you? Are you sick?" Everything Erebos would need to know would not come from the wolfs mouth, no - He would know everything by the look in his eyes and the stance of his body.

Her mate stepped in front of her before she got a good running start. Annoyance flooded in her gut and she lowered her ears to her head, giving Erebos a sharp look. He started speaking and the knowledge that he was right and she had acted foolishly made her anger seethe even more. She wanted Apollo to be alright. She wanted to him be with her and Erebos. They were probably the only wolves left on the island, and it wasn't right for Apollo to have to live by himself. Just as she decided she was going to see him no matter what, Erebos began speaking again. This time, his words were softer, kinder, and they compelled her to listen. He knew just how to capture her often short attention span, he knew how to speak to her to make her understand reason. But his offer made her rigid. She didn't want him to get sick anymore than he wanted her to. She couldn't live without him. But before she could protest, he was walking closer to Apollo.
She trailed behind him, hunkered down. She knew better than to try and run past him to her brother. He was keeping a safe distance, and she peaked out from behind his black flank to offer Apollo an encouraging smile. She knew that her happiness meant more than anything to Erebos, and that if he knew that Apollo wasn't sick he would allow him to come along. The thought of this made her fluffy white tail swing back and forth. The hope that she might have some family left after thinking she had lost everyone filled her with happiness and longing. Every muscle in her body screamed for her to run forward and smother her brother in affection, but she held still, awaiting his response to Erebos.

-Ooc: Sorry for the late suckish post! I've been busy :c -bows--
Apollo glared at the grey mass that suddenly intruded on his precious reunion with his sister. He's been looking for her, for who knows how long and now Erebos is blocking the way. He longed to just race past him and cuddle his sister, showering her with all the affection he could give her. But noo the world just had to hate him. Seeing his sister shoot him grin and he felt his heart twang. He leaned over slightly, giving his sister a happy toothed grin. Apollo couldn't help it, she always brought the best out of him.
"You think I'm an idiot? I wouldn't ever hurt Astrid. Ever. If I was sick I would have hightailed and run. Now for godsakes, please step out of the way so I can see her again," he said, voice dripping with irritation.
He would love to knock the other male around, but sadly his sister had to take to that thing. Being so cruel was a trait that emerged from the white-fur wolf when he was tired, paranoid, annoyed, and someone, who he hates with a burning passion, just so happens to be blocking his sister. Sighing, he had to admit Erebos wasn't as horrible at protecting his sister as he thought he would be. "Well, may I please see my sister now?" Apollo asked, his tail twitching impatiently.
He just wanted to see his sister again, was that so wrong?

[bg=000000][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,5,false][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] The dark wolf glanced over his shoulder back at his Astrid only for a moment before allowing his dead gaze to fall back on her lost brother. He watched Apollo carefully, taking it all in. His defensive stance, the words that quickly flowed from his maw, expressing his love and concern for his sister. There was a moment of silence from the lithe wolf as he stared out at Apollo. The crickets had even stopped chirping it seemed.
Knowing full well that Astrid could not see Erebos' face, it changed from one of concern to humour very slowly as if a mischievous idea crossed the brutes mind. Which is exactly what had happened.
The smirk grew slowly across the right side of his maw. It creeped up his face menacingly. Behind thick cataracts, his eyes seemed to grow dark. He allowed his expression to change for Apollo, allowed him to see it all. However, he kept his back to Astrid and was made sure that nothing but his face changed. He still held his defensive posture, his body tightening when she grazed him. Erebos kept the humour out of his voice yet allowed the smirk to morph into a toothy grin.
"I believe you believe you are uninfected. Yet I sense hostility in your voice. I've never known an infected to come clean with their disease, I don't imagine it would start here. And I've never known one to be able to contain their vicious emotions for long. Are you certain enough, Apollo?" His head tilted slightly, backing up the question. Erebos kept his voice low and concerned yet the grin refused to leave him until the exact moment he turned away from the white brute. All humour was swept from his face, his eyes softening as he faced her, still keeping Apollo in his sight.
"I'm not certain enough. We have to be certain." He allowed his gaze to fall from Apollo and faced Astrid directly, looking into her eyes. If she focused hard enough, she would see the softness and pain beneath the cataracts. It was half a facade and half truth. "They can not have died in vain, you understand?" He hoped she would understand that he was speaking of their pups who had been lost to the famine caused by the virus. This was one reason he did protect Astrid to his full extent. He had failed with his children.
Erebos knew Apollo wasn't infected. Or at least he knew that he hadn't been taken over by it. However, what Erebos didn't know is if he could stand to have the brute so close to her again. Apollo despised Erebos, and the dark wolf really couldn't blame him. He had raped his sister, taken something from her that no one should ever claim on their own regard. He had desecrated her body. It was only right for the white male to assume Erebos was doing the same to her mind. And only in time, he could easily convince her to go. If he let Apollo too close, all could be lost.
Erebos quickly glanced back at the wolf, his eyes wincing slightly. "You may follow, I'll give you that respect. If you try to get too close, I will stop you. Whatever it takes, do you understand, wolf?" He didn't want to flat out say that he would kill Apollo in front of Astrid, but he hoped that the wolf got the point.
