The Plague Dogs role play is extremely loosely based on 'The Plague Dogs' novel written by Richard Adams in 1977. Although it is not in any way necessary to know this book to participate in this role play, we will always recommend it because it's such a wonderful novel and would give you a pretty good idea of how this role play came into existence.
And in the Past Lies our Future
Plot for Version One
As most tragedies happen, it all began with the fool. Several fools, to be more precise; but the particular details rarely matter for the sake of brevity. His name was Rosencrantz, or Canine 1087, a beagle mix bought by the section of the Testing Facility focused on the study of infectious diseases and their potential as bio-weapons. Yet our friendly neighborhood animal enthusiasts would have none of that, and in a righteous campaign broke into and released quite a few animals from inside the facility. They didn't bother to check what sort of experiments the creatures they released had been subjected to; the first act of foolishness.
Now little Rosencrantz knew his peers had been getting sick and dying off quickly, and he also knew he didn't feel perfectly healthy. But at the same time, he was just a domesticated dog who knew nothing of plagues or bacteria or infections. He mingled with the wild population before heading back to town unmolested; the second instance of foolishness.
The Plague Dogs: Version Two
For nearly a year no human breath has stirred the grass in the town of Flint, the Virus spread through the island too rapidly for the humans to do anything about it before it was too late. The domesticated animals were hit the hardest, but the wild and free creatures caught it too soon enough. The structures of civilization have begun the process of growing back into nature, buildings crumble and plants choke the streetlights.
Canines rule the island of Daulton now; the two groups to survive being the ruthless gang Si Insinua who claimed the abandoned suburban country and the post-facility pack of Vapaus who have resisted change as best as they could. The other packs were destroyed, and loners have made up the bulk of the population since the disease fully took hold. Wolves are rarely seen, keeping apart from the consensus. The infected go undetected, the symptoms and specifics of the illness are unclear and change depending on who one gets their information from. The only consensus is that it ends in death, can be nightmarish, and anyone can have it.
Si Insinua offers its members protection in exchange for loyalty to the death and committing oneself to the betterment of the group. Threats will be eradicated, if your brother contracts the disease you will be forced to kill him or the both of you will be exiled or eliminated. Information rules the streets, those who have it hold the power to influence their otherwise shattered world.
Vapaus remains highly selective and inclusive, most if not all of the members have been to the facility for various amounts of time. This cast of characters generally don't fit the norm and numerous horrors are said to go on in their ranks. But then again, being in a pack is much safer than fending for yourself.
And then there's the Fuljenge, a little known pack only in its early stages. Formed by the previous Alpha of Zaveda, this group doesn't rule by fear, but by the olden concepts of the wolf pack and living through nature. They aren't that easy to find, living in the wilderness of the island and focusing on their one and only goal: to survive.
All the other creatures are on their own, facing slim chances of survival and the constant fear of infection. At the end of the day it's every pelt for themselves, and the tides can change in an instant.
Will you make it?
For some must watch, while some must sleep;
Thus runs the world away...
Thus runs the world away...
