Two years ago in 2024, the new Canadian Prime Minister celebrated his victory for a very short time before an ugly portrait announced that the Minister of Magic was going to introduce himself. After pinching himself and slapping himself for several seconds a man --- a real man --- stepped out of his fireplace. Flabbergasted, the prime minister stared in horror and silence as the Minister of Magic explained that he was a wizard and there were magical people and creatures all over the country and all over the world. After the Minister of Magic left, it took a few minutes for the Prime Minister to collect himself. When he finally realized what happened, he decided his country needed to know. And since the Prime Minister prided himself on being a man of action, the next day, he went to the media.
While it took a lot of persuasion to convince the Canadians, finally one brave wizard stepped in front of the cameras and performed a simple Summoning charm and then a Banishing charm. The media and the community viewers were astounded --- but still hesitant. Surely science must be involved. Before they could make up their minds, a team of wizards dressed in their cloaks and robes, apparated to the conference and fired memory charms in every direction, to the horror of those on the scene and those watching on television. Those who did not have their memories modified ran away to report everything they saw. Within a few hours, the entire world knew that wizards still lived among them, as their ancestors once knew and dreaded.
Now in 2026, no real verdict has been reached, though sides have been established. In the United Kingdom, the current Minister of Magic wants to live in peace with the wizards and just set up boundaries between the magical and the muggle world. His competitor, however, takes the opposite stance. He wants to modify the memories of absolutely all of the muggles in the world so that once again, wizards can be “superior.”
In the muggle world of the UK, the current Prime Minister agrees heavily with the current Minister of Magic. She believes that wizards and muggles can live harmoniously, as long as certain rules, such as a ban on memory modification, are in place. She wants them to continue having their self-governance, but also wants to draw them into Parliament. Her competitor wants the magical people to be under heavy surveillance and every hiding place of theirs to be revealed.
Muggles, witches, wizards and squibs find themselves on conflicting sides. Families are against families and friends are against friends. Squibs finally find themselves in the spotlight as wizards ask how they can dress and act like muggles to escape detection. No one knows what will happen next as tensions rise on both sides.
