Soft and airy, like the down of doves plucked from a healthy bird and abandoned on the ground to form a blanket of unnatural cotton. There was a whistling in the wind, the dancing air sang a song of change. Change for the better. Change that could only come through the deaths of many undesirables. The Great Dane jumped to life, waking up from the sorts of prophetic dreams that visited him whenever he let his conscious self wander into the lands of sleep. His dreams were filled with messages from his one true god, and Vera would hardly be worth living through the cleansing if he didn't listen to them.
Stretching the sleep from his limbs, the large canine didn't bother getting up right away. First was a prayer for doing his job correctly, and that His grace would watch over the pure souls. Then he would lift his broad frame up, his head towards the sky, and take a whiff of his surroundings. The weasel had passed by, and a couple of young rabbits grazed near the hill's base. No other creatures had recently passed by, at least no earthly ones with earthly scents. He directed his ears and eyes towards the still fresh rabbit smell, his fiercely impaired vision noted two shapes moving independently from the slight shift in the grass.
A prickling in the dog's stomach reminded him that today was the end of his latest three sun fast. However, it was entirely against his beliefs to kill another of His creatures even if it was for food. He would only eat what had died of other circumstances. With a rather forlorn look he turned his senses elsewhere- he could only have a hand in the deaths of the sinful. Stomach aching with each step of the malnourished brute, he began heading off at a leisurely pace in the pursuit of carrion. Every now and then he stumbled over a small rock whose stillness and bland color rendered it invisible to his sight that could only differentiate between light and dark.
